HighwaySavo is a joint communications project of Local Action Groups in Northern Savo. The aim of the project is to promote regionally and locally European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
The Local Action Groups (LAGs) develop rural areas by funding local projects in the common interest and supporting local enterprises. funding comes from The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EARFD), national government and local municipalities. Also private funding is needed. There are three LAGs in Northern Savo: LAG Mansikka, LAG Kalakukko and LAG Ylä-Savon Veturi. The countryside magazine inspires and gives examples of developing rural areas in Northern Savo.

Southern Konnevesi National Park offers unforgettable nature experinces and different kind of services from food to canoe renting and lake cruises for international visitors. The National Park and its services have been developed and funded by the EAFRD through ELY Centres in Northern Savo and Central Finland.

People of Savo have discovered an innovative way to move during winter: snow rowing. It’s is a mixture of fun, play and exercise. Snow rowing is based a new regional invention. The machine is a combination of traditional rowing boat oars and skis mounted on a device on which you can sit and row on snow or on ice. The machine is being further developed with the aid of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
In the video Jussi Vatanen, one of the most well-known actors in Finland, shows how to row a snowy field in Savo. The world’s first snow rowing competition will be held on 18th February 2018 in Vieremä.
